“You are what your deep, driving desire is.
As your desire is, so is your will.
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is, so is your destiny.”
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad IV 4.5
I came across this beautiful piece recently and it made me pause…
Is it as simple as that? If so, how come we all don’t have what we desire?
Is it because many of us don’t take the time to consider what we deeply desire?
The time to be clear what it would look like in our lives? The time to listen to what it would sound like in our every day internal dialogue? The time to get a sense of what it would be like to live in our body when it had what we deeply desired. Or is it that we get pulled off track by the demands of daily life?
Desire is very important; And yet, it’s only one half of the story. The other is Intention. That quiet way of being that is unswerving in it’s focus and yet completely flexible in it’s route to get there. Now here’s where the magic happens!
We each know how to be this way in the world and yet we’ve often forgotten how. Its usually buried under a lifetime of shoulds and people pleasing. And its still there. Waiting to be discovered again. Waiting for the magic to begin again, like it did when you were very young. When you ‘knew’ what was right for you.
Today, consider what you deeply desire in the world. ..and go within to find your own magic so that it becomes your destiny.
